The Touhou Project is a series of 2D (with 3D background) vertically-scrolling danmaku shooting games made by Team Shanghai Alice, with three fighting game spinoffs co-produced with Tasogare Frontier. They are similar to regular shooting games, but focus more on weaving through difficult patterns containing anywhere from dozens to hundreds of bullets. Every game in the Touhou series is set in the fantasy land of Gensokyo, and the series is known for its huge cast of characters, well developed story lines, and related materials such as music CDs, dojin, videos made to the music, and fan-made animations.
Touhou Project or Project Shrine Maiden is a Japanese dojin game series focused on bullet hell shooters made by the one-man developer Team Shanghai Alice, whose sole member ZUN(alias), is responsible for all the graphics, music, and programming for the most part of all the games.
The games premise circles around Hakurei Reimu the shrine maiden at the Hakurei Shrine. She lives in a separate hidden world. This place is named Gensokyo and it houses many types of yokai, demons, vampires, Gods, etc... and it is up to the Hakurei Shrine maiden to protect this land and its people from the dangers of these monsters. It's not until the events after the Mima incident that she gains the help of a kleptomaniac witch named Kirisame Marisa who starts to help Reimu to resolve any future incidents. After Marisa joins Reimu they begin to get along, developing a deep bond between them as they both solve the problems that Gensokyo faces together each time new enemies show themselves one after the other. From there both of them become a force to be reckoned with.
